Individual Therapy

 Approach to Psychotherapy

"Everyone comes to therapy with unique experiences, concerns, and goals; I use an integrative approach, guided by psychodynamic, trauma-responsive, culturally-informed, and evidence-based approaches, to provide the highest-quality, individualized, and effective therapy possible.

I aim to create a compassionate and collaborative space where, together, we can explore painful or traumatic experiences and resolve them, better understand unhealthy life patterns, and identify solutions to current problems. The insight you will gain through therapy is a catalyst for finally healing from trauma, restoring autonomy, achieving balance, and improving your overall well-being."

Trauma-Informed

Trauma is ubiquitous. Every one of us has encountered challenging, overwhelming, or distressing events that have caused short- and long-term consequences to our emotional, relational, behavioral, developmental, and psychological well-being. These traumas and the ways they have shaped us are often the source of our current life problems, and what hold us back from finding and fostering our true selves.

My approach to psychotherapy is strongly rooted in a trauma-informed framework. I am committed to studying and integrating the foundational trauma theories like Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment, and Polyvagal theories - and to learning the cutting-edge, neuroscientific interventions and treatments that use Memory Reconsolidation, somatic, mindfulness, and self-compassion techniques.

Safety, trust, collaboration, transparency, compassion, respect, and empowerment are the key hallmarks of trauma-informed care. My goal is to help you understand the unique ways these difficult life experiences have impacted your brain, body, belief systems, and coping responses - and use science-backed approaches to help you transfer that new wisdom to lead a more empowered and authentic life.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

Have you suffered a recent traumatic event and are now dealing with anxiety, nightmares, intrusive memories, and disruptions at work or school? Have you been haunted for years by painful life experiences that have impacted your relationships, self-esteem, and emotional health? Are you seeking relief from general stress, anxiety, or depression? Negative events overwhelm our capacity to cope and have devastating consequences in our lives. My clients have experienced remarkable results through Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). ART could be your first step on the path toward healing.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an innovative therapy designed to decrease the emotional reactivity and negative symptoms experienced following a traumatic event. ART is a structured treatment that uses bilateral eye movements and visualization techniques to reprogram the way these distressing memories are stored in the brain and body. Though it is similar to Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), ART is unique from other therapies in that the individual does not have to talk through their problems or share painful details of the events; instead, the individual recalls the memories in their mind and processes through the experience mentally and emotionally. ART works by replacing negative or traumatic experiences with positive images and sensations - so these memories no longer trigger strong emotional reactions, and no longer cause disruption in our daily lives. Individuals often leave an ART session feeling calm and in control. ART is an effective treatment that will help you quickly recover from recent or longstanding trauma and the resulting anxiety and depression.

ART sessions last between 60-90 minutes, and many problems can be resolved in just 1-5 sessions.

I am a Master Certified ART Practitioner and have been providing ART since 2017. I have seen remarkable results for clients with post-traumatic stress symptoms from traumatic events (sexual assault, childhood abuse, car accidents, etc.), obsessive thoughts, phobias, anxiety, poor self-image, disordered eating, depression, and grief/loss - and many other concerns.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a skills-based psychotherapy that focuses on learning and practicing healthier ways of coping, thinking, feeling, reacting, and relating. Most effective through group and individual therapy combined, individuals learn the skills of Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. DBT is effective for those who struggle with emotional dysregulation and mood variability, negative thinking patterns, self-harmful or addictive behaviors, unhealthy interpersonal relationship patterns, and many other concerns. DBT skills are life skills that can help anyone achieve more balance. I often integrate DBT concepts and strategies into individual psychotherapy work.

I am highly-trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, previously directing a state-certified DBT Intensive Outpatient Program at a community mental health center, and facilitating multiple groups in both university and community settings.
